India elected to UN Economic and Social Council for 2022-24 term

India was elected by the member states in the Asia-Pacific States category alongside Afghanistan, Kazakhstan and Oman in the elections held on Monday.

India on Tuesday got elected to the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) for the term 2022-2024.

India was elected by the member states in the Asia-Pacific category alongside Afghanistan, Kazakhstan and Oman in the elections held on Monday.

President of the General Assembly Volkan Bozkir announced the inclusion of India after voting in the assembly.

India's permanent representative to the UN, T. S. Tirumurti, thanked the member states for voting in favour of India and tweeted, "I thank all Member States of the @UN for their vote of confidence in India for #ECOSOC." 

The ECOSOC is one of the six main organs of the United Nations and focuses on the UN development system that brings together people and issues to promote collective action for a sustainable world.
