COPENHAGEN:

Denmark announced it would stop using the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine over suspected “serious side effects.”

It is also the first European country to suspend the use of the AstraZeneca jab, despite recommendations from the World Health Organisation and European medicines watchdog.

“Denmark’s vaccination campaign will go ahead without the AstraZeneca vaccine,” Health Authority director Soren Brostrom said.

There have been reports of cases like blood clots among those that had received the vaccine.

AstraZeneca said it respected Denmark’s choice and would continue to provide it with data for future decisions.

“Implementation and rollout of the vaccine programme is a matter for each country to decide, based on local conditions,” the Anglo-Swedish company said.
