Agriculture Minister,Pranajit Singha Roy on Friday, said that more consignments would be sent to West Asia and other places soon.

The minister said the queen pineapple had received very good response in different states and other countries.

It was showcased in the Second Reverse Buyers Sellers Meet, organized by Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority, at Mumbai in May. Delegates from countries like Japan, China, Australia, New Zealand, Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Britain, Mauritius, Malaysia and United Arab Emirates were present and had praised the queen pineapple, Singha Roy said.

He said the queen pineapple cultivation season was over this year and the kew variety would grow for a month or so, which provides the opportunity to market it. He hoped the kew pineapple will also find customers.

"We will set up a centre at Tripura Bhawan in Calcutta this month to market kew. Marketers from New Delhi were also roped in and it will be available at Delhi Haat," the minister said.

Speaking at the flagging-off ceremony on Thursday, MLA Sudhangshu Das said pineapple from Tripura would "introduce" the state to the world.

He said the state government will try to revive a fruit juice plant set up at Nalkata in Unakoti district in 1988. The plant became non-functional around a decade back.
