The Tripura Deputy Chief Minister, Jishnu Debbarma on Wednesday hit back at CPI (M)MP, Jitendra Chaudhury for his statement on the deprivation of livelihood in ADC areas by the state government and dared the latter to present data to support his claim.

"Some responsible citizens are alleging that there is no work, no food in the state, people have to go to Bangladesh for their survival. But they couldn't present data to support their claims," Debbarma told media persons in the state secretariat on Wednesday.

It may be recalled that the CPI(M) MP, Jitendra Chaudhury had earlier accused the present BJP-IPFT government of not ensuring work in the hilly areas, especially in the ADC areas of the state which has led to massive unrest among the people and they are being forced to go to Bangladesh to sell natural forest resources of the state in a very cheap rate for their livelihood.

Hitting back at Choudhury, the minister said that under the Left Front regime, 6.49 lakh MGNREGA man-days were created in 2017-18 but within three months of the BJP-IPFT coalition coming to power, 10.34 lakh MGNREGA  man-days have been created. "What kind of logic is this? People have brought us into power with absolute majority. People across the state has voted for us," he added.

Furthermore, he stated "We don't expect this kind of statements from a responsible citizen. How can someone say that people were happy with 6.49 lakh MGNREGA man-days but unhappy and facing lot of difficulties with 10.34 lakh MGNREGA man-days? Even then, the Chief Minister has told me that if there is any shortage of food in any area of the state, the government will provide food. It is our responsibility to do so".
