Promoting homestay culture and rural tourism in Sikkim

To accelerate rural tourism in the Himalayan state of Sikkim, a four-day event was organised by the Homestay Association of Sikkim in collaboration with the Department of Tourism and Civil Aviation of Sikkim.

The event concluded at the picturesque Okhre village of West Sikkim on Thursday.

The programmes of the event include adventure escapades, motorbike crusade with Sikkim Riders, workshops, interactive sessions, training and discussions.

Some of the key elements that were discussed include the Homestay ecosystem in Sikkim and the need to take this profession in a balanced, hospitable and sustainable manner. Stress was also laid on the importance of the internet for tourism and the marketing of homestays and travel protocols during the pandemic.

In the second edition of this program for which the dates have not been declared, the organisers informed TNT-The Northeast Today that more such events and activities are likely to take place, and it will also include the participation of Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang.
