Sikkim | CM Chamling reiterates state’s demands before PM Modi

Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling on Monday stressed on the need of support and blessing from the Centre government so that everyone benefits from the development process and peace in Sikkim.

CM Chamling had requested PM Modi to support the state, he also mentioned that Sikkim, despite being a sensitive border State, is free from unrest and has evolved as the most peaceful and developing State in the country.

Chamling also added that the people of Sikkim have exemplified communal harmony and patriotism as a distinct identity of the State.

He praised PM Modi for leading India to a golden era and said that Sikkimese people have high hopes on the PM.

Thanking Modi for giving the airport as a gift of development to the State and its people, the Chief Minister also reiterated few pending issues concerning the State and expressed positivity that they would be addressed at the earliest.

The Chief Minister stated that the Limboo-Tamang communities are yet to get their Assembly seats reserved despite being accorded Scheduled Tribes in 2002. Thus, he requested that the seats be reserved for the two communities before the 2019 Assembly and general elections.

Chamling also mentioned the demand for granting Scheduled Tribe status to all Sikkimese communities who enjoyed the status before Sikkim became a part of the Indian union. He requested that these communities be accorded ST status to fulfil their constitutional rights and aspirations.
