Meghalaya: Man kidnaps, murders 9-yr-old ex-brother-in-law

Nearly after a week since the murder of a three-week old baby by a man alleged to be the ex-husband of the infant's mother in Shillong, another similar case has been reported where a 19-yr-old man allegedly murdered a 9-yr old  boy, who was the brother of his ex-wife, in Jaintia Hills.

According to the police, on June 26 afternoon, the child, hailing from Umjalasiaw village in West Jaintia Hills district, was kidnapped by his ex-brother-in-law identified as Shiningstar Pala (19), a resident of Wahiajer. The matter was reported at Saitsama OP on June 27.

WJH Superintendent of Police, Vivek Syiem on Thursday informed that the child was taken towards Karbi Anglong in Assam. In this connection, the accused person along his accomplish identified as Pynchemi Phawa (26), who is a Wahiajer driver of the tourist cab (ML04 C 4532) were arrested on June 27.

After interrogation, the main accused — Shiningstar Pala on Thursday revealed the location of the boy and acting on the leads given by the accused, the police recovered the dead body of the abducted child from Laher village in West Karbi Anglong.

Syiem said that the knife (dao) used in the murder and another car used by the accused persons have been seized.

Pala, the main accused who has several criminal cases against him, committed the murder over a personal issue with his ex-wife (victim being brother of ex-wife), informed the district police chief.

"A case vide Nartiang PS Case No. 25(6)2018 U/S 364/302/34 IPC is being registered and investigation will be taken up vigorously to take it to its logical conclusion," Syiem said.
