TURA, June 9, 2018: A budding entrepreneur from Williamnagar has endeavoured to convert waste into useable products, and as a result, has earned himself praise from Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K. Sangma.

Bonkey R. Marak of Williamnagar in East Garo Hills called on Conrad on Friday to show him the products made out of recycled paper.

Marak manufactures file covers and boards, cobra clip files, document box, pen stands, envelopes and four-fold cover files, besides other items. He does all of this under the brand name Ecocraft,

East Garo Hills deputy commissioner Ram Kumar familiarised the CM with the project and informed that the initiative was launched in the month of April.

The Williamnagar Waste Paper Recycling Centre, which promotes the brand, is located on the premises of the deputy commissioner's office with an outlet from where the products are sold. The centre collects waste paper material generated by government offices, schools and colleges.

"We conceptualised and launched the project in our bid to reduce waste material and help make Williamnagar clean," Marak told Conrad.

Ecocraft has so far given employment to 30 people, who are engaged in the manufacturing unit in different capacities.

Impressed with the initiative, the chief minister exhorted Marak to expand his operation.

He told him to start outlets in different parts of the state and make the products available to the public.
