The South West Garo Hills Police on Wednesday morning recovered the decomposed body of a 19 year old girl, who allegedly went missing a few days ago from near her house in Barmanpara under Mahendraganj PS.

The body was first spotted by a local residents who called the police to inform about a body being seen near the Pishlakura jungle a day earlier.

According to police sources, the victim had gone missing a few days ago and a missing report was filed by her family after which an investigation had been launched.

"As it was night when the police were informed on June 19, we had to wait until the next morning to recover the body. In the meanwhile, the deputy commissioner and the medical team were informed. Prima facie it appears to be a murder and a case of kidnapping and murder has been registered," said superintendent of police, Bobby W Momin.

The inquest as well as a post mortem was performed on the spot and the victim was identified through her clothes by her family members.

Police, however, are yet to disclose any motive for the kidnapping and murder though they already have identified a few suspects.

"The matter is under investigation and we will have more information once the post mortem report is available. We have identified a few suspects behind the murder. The girl was dumped after being murdered and her body was found in a highly decomposed state," said the SP.

Police are awaiting the PM report to also confirm if the 19 year old victim was sexually assaulted before being murdered.
