In the backdrop of the NRC fallout in Assam, reports have emerged that members of the Hynniew-Trep Youth Council (HYC) have stormed the state Secretariat today morning at around 10.45 am demanding the implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) as well as an NRC-like exercise in the state.

The announcement of the NRC draft list in Assam on July 30 has given Meghalaya and all neighbouring north-eastern states more reasons to worry lest there be any spillover into the states.

As a result, the prominent student bodies across North-east India have raised demands for ILP and NRC exercises to control illegal influx.

The Khasi Students' Union (KSU) had on Wednesday also submitted a proposal to Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong, suggesting the government to adopt a similar kind of exercise like the NRC even in Meghalaya.

Till the filing of this report, the protestors have been moved by police to the Additional Secretariat parking lot.
