Home Ministry Jt. Secy hails Meghalaya Govt. for ‘bringing down’ militancy in state

The Union Home Ministry joint secretary (NE), S Garg on Friday said that the security scenario in the Northeast region have seen a vast improvement in the past four years.

"We are seeing a vast improvement in the security scenario in the whole region compared to the previous years," Garg told newsmen here today.

When asked if the Government will hold talks with the HNLC, he said that the Government is ready to talks with any organisation who are ready to lay to their arms.

"We are ready to talk with any militant groups if there are substantive issues which can be discussed," Union Home Ministry joint secretary said.

It may be mentioned that Home Minister James K Sangma had earlier said that the Government is ready to talk with the HNLC if they are ready to leave the path of violence.

When asked if the officials from the Centre had met slain GNLA chief Sohan D Shira to discuss for a possible dialogue, Garg said that no officials from the Centre had met Sohan.

He said that the State Government has done a wonderful job as far handling the GNLA.
