July 03, 2018:

Sweden is through to the next round after defeating Switzerland 1-0 in the Knock-out round of the FIFA World Cup 2018.

After 66 minutes of constant efforts to breach the Switz's defence, Sweden finally managed to break the deadlock as Emil Forsberg lashed an effort into the top corner via a massive deflection off the foot of Switzerland's defender.

This was the first World Cup goal for Forsberg with what was his 14th shot.

Towards the end of the game, Switzerland's defender, Michael Lang was given a red card for committing a foul.

This was the 29th meeting between Sweden and Switzerland but the first ever at a major tournament (World Cup or Euro)

Sweden have qualified for their first World Cup quarter final since 1994 while Switzerland have never won a World Cup knock-out match.
