Assam: Telecaller dupes woman of Rs 46,000 in card fraud

GUWAHATI, July 26, 2018: In another incident that took place in the city, a sum of Rs. 46,000 was duped from one lady customer of Jawahar Nagar's Allahabad Bank by a tele-caller.

According to the police, the victim on 23rd July had deposited Rs. 46,000 at the branch. She then received a call from someone impersonating as the bank's manager. The caller managed to convince the lady that her ATM card has been blocked. He then informed her that in order to activate the card she needed to share the 16-digit card number along with the one-time password (OTP). The lady relented to the request of the tele-caller.

The conman in 8 transactions wiped her account clean. After receiving messages of transactions, the lady informed the bank and lodged a complaint at the Basista Police Station.
