Assam: Sivasagar boy whose father runs Paan shop clears UPSC exams

Rahul Kumar Gupta, whose father runs a paan shop in Sivasagar district has become the focus of attention after the declaration of the UPSC examination results– he has brought pride to his hometown by securing 286th rank in the UPSC examination this year.

Thanking the family members as well as his teachers after the achievement, Rahul was quoted as saying, "I thank all, who have supported me, this would not have been possible without their support."

"We are poor and it was hard to run the family, but I never neglected my son's studies," said Rahul's father, the owner of the paan shop. "I open the shop at six in the morning and continue till 9 pm. Now my son's result has waived of all my hard work over the years," added the proud father.

"It's all due to the grace of God. My obedient son showed a spark of brilliance right from childhood," said Rahul's mother adding, "While his friends would be busy playing, he never went there to join them. He would always study in our small house."

Rahul is pursuing his higher education in Delhi after completing higher secondary from a college in Sivasagar.

Rahul completed his graduation from Kirori Mal College in New Delhi and is presently pursuing his higher education from JNU, New Delhi.

It may be mentioned that 13 candidates from Assam have cleared the prestigious Combined Competitive Exams (CCE) held by the UPSC. The results of the exam were declared on Friday.
