Assam: Murder accused remanded in custody

GUWAHATI, May 22, 2018: Proprietor of Ghosh Brothers Motors Pvt Ltd and Contour Hotel, Pratul Kumar Ghosh, who was arrested for his alleged involvement in a murder at Paltan Bazar here on February 4, 2016, was remanded in police custody for 10 days after being produced at the chief judicial magistrate's court, Kamrup (metro) on Monday.

Pratul was arrested in Calcutta on Friday and brought on Sunday. Ghosh was held in connection with a case registered at Paltan Bazar police station under Sections 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 302 (murder) of the IPC related to murder of Mridul Jyoti Das. He has been absconding for two years before police tracked him down in Calcutta.

Das's family said Ghosh, a friend, had called him to Contour Hotel for "urgent work". When he reached there around 1.30am on February 4, 2016, Ghosh and two others took him to room number 508 and allegedly beat him up, resulting in his death. They then threw his body from the balcony of the hotel.
