Assam: Man arrested for raping minor grand-daughter; victim pregnant

DIBRUGARH, May 26, 2018: A 57-year-old man has been arrested on Friday for allegedly raping his minor granddaughter resulting in her pregnancy.

According to the police, the 14-year-old girl was taken to the doctor after she fell ill following which they pronounced her pregnant.

"When her parents prodded her, she said her grandfather had raped her a few months back. The victim's parents filed an FIR and we arrested the accused," a police source said.

"She has been throwing up for the past few weeks and so we took her to the doctor. The doctor told us that she was pregnant. She said she was raped by her grandfather," said the victim's father.

The source said the accused runs an illegal makeshift liquor shop.

Local residents gheraoed the Dibrugarh police station for an hour and demanded capital punishment for the accused. "It's a great shame for us because crimes against minors are rising. We demanded capital punishment for the accused," a local resident said.

In another incident on May 18, a 13-year-old girl was molested by her teacher inside the school.
