Assam: 17-year-old girl molested, two youths held
GUWAHATI, July 14, 2018: Two youths were arrested by the police on Friday, on charges of molesting a teenager. The accused were produced in the local special court which remanded them in judicial custody.
The girl, 17, had reached New Bongaigaon station from Guwahati along with her relatives around 11pm on Thursday. They took an autorickshaw and reached the Old Colony area where her relatives stay.
The area is 2km from the station.
The relatives told her to stay back, but she insisted on going home, 1km from her relatives' residence.
Anil Basfor, 20, and Akshay Basfor, 21, riding a bike, intercepted her.
She immediately raised an alarm and before they could molest her, residents of the locality rushed to the spot.
The duo escaped leaving behind the bike. However, its numberplate helped the police to trace the duo and arrest them on Friday from their residence in the Old Colony area.
The police had sent the girl for a medical test after receiving a report from her family on Friday morning. The police registered a case at North Bongaigaon patrol post under Section 6 (g) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act against the accused.
The special court of Bongaigaon remanded the two accused in judicial custody.
