Assam: 13-year-old abducted girl rescued from Dhubri

GUWAHATI, July 19, 2018: City police rescued a 13-year-old girl from Patamari village under Dhubri police station along the Indo-Bangladesh border on Wednesday. The girl was allegedly kidnapped from Guwahati four days back.

The girl is a resident of Hatigaon police station area and was allegedly kidnapped on July 14 by one Hafizul (30), of Patamari village, the accused is absconding, police said.

Officer-in-charge of Dhubri police station Kamal Sil said Hafizul had allegedly kidnapped the girl with the promise of marrying her.

Sil said, "Following a complaint (no. 497/2018) lodged by the girl's family at Hatigaon police station of Kamrup (metro) under Section 363 (kidnapping) of the IPC, investigation was started to trace the girl. On Tuesday night, we received information that the girl was spotted in an area along the Indo-Bangladesh border. Accordingly, we launched an operation and successfully rescued the abducted girl from Patamari village in the early hours of Wednesday".
