TSR rifleman killed two senior officials over rejection of leave application

Sukanta Das, a jawan of the 5th battalion Tripura State Rifles (TSR) has allegedly killed two senior officials with his service rifle at Konaban GCS (ONGC post), Madhupur police station, Sepahijala district.

Earlier, Das had applied for leave but his application was reportedly not accepted, which left him depressed, leading to the bizarre incident, which occurred at 9:30 am on December 4.

Expressing his condolences, chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb has announced Rs 5 lakh compensation for the families of the deceased, along with the benefits under the “Die-in-harness scheme”.

Subedar Marka Singh Jamatia died on the spot while Naik Subedar Kiran Jamatia was admitted to Tripura Medical College in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Das fled the scene and surrendered his arms and ammunition to the Madhupur police station. Following his arrest, interrogation is on.
