Tripura’s Satya Ram Reang accorded Padma Shri award

Tribal litterateur and folk artist Satya Ram Reang was accorded the Padma Shri award for his contribution in the field of literature on Monday.

He is among the 102 personalities who have been accorded the Padma Shri along with 10 others for the Padma Bhushan and 7 Padma Vibhushan awardees.

85-year-old Satya Ram Reang was also awarded with Sangeet Natak Academy award in 1986.

Satya Reang is a prominent Hajagiri Dance ‘Guru’ in Tripura.

Hajagiri is a famous dance form of the Reang Community.

Tripura CM Biplab Kumar Deb also congratulated him and took to his Facebook page, “Today is another day of pride for Tripura. Another member of the state’s tribal community was awarded the Padma Shri. Narendra Modiji’s government has nominated Shri Satyaram Reangji, the proverbial artist of the traditional Hajagiri dance of the tribe, for the Padma Shri award. On behalf of 37 lakh Tripura people, I congratulate him”.
