Tripura State Rifles jawan and partner arrested on rape charges

AGARTALA:

A Tripura State Rifles (TSR) jawan and his partner were arrested for allegedly raping a woman in South Tripura district on Saturday.

According to sources, the woman, a resident of Ghorakappa village of Shilachhari, was on her way to a local hospital for treatment when she met the TSR jawan, identified as Sukhdeb Bhowmik and a local youth identified as Bishnu Das.

The duo offered her a ride to the hospital on a motorcycle (TR-08-A-4909), which she accepted.

However, they took her to a wooded area and allegedly raped her.

The woman later stated that they had threatened her life if she reported the matter to the authorities.

Following her narration of the incident, locals apprehended the two suspects and handed them over to Shilachhari police station.

The TSR jawan and his accomplice were produced before the South Tripura District Court at Belonia on Sunday and was sent to prison after the hearing.

Police booked them under Sections 376 and 409 of the Indian Penal Code.
