"This is a big thing for us because for the first time, the Supreme Court has sent a notice to the GoI on this issue questioning the government over violation of these agreements. Now the GoI has to answer", said Manikya.

He also felt that this is a big win for the people of Tripura. "Just have patience and I appeal to the people that there should be no violence in Tripura. Our fight is against the government not against the common man", he said.

It may be mentioned that Manikya went to the Supreme Court to challenge this act soon after it was approved by the President on grounds that it violates the Instrument of Accession signed between the government of India and the Royal Family of Tripura in 1947 besides other peace accords signed with the militant outfits of the state.

Earlier, the Supreme Court said there would be no stay on the Citizenship Amendment Act and fixed January 22 as the date to conduct hearing on nearly 60 petitions challenging the Act.
