Tripura: Financial woes push couple to 'consume' poison

AGARTALA:

A couple from Manikya Nagar village in Tripura's Sepahijala district was rushed to Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital on February 18 after reportedly consuming poison.

Authorities identified the couple as Rajib Pal (21) and Preeti Das (20).

Das, who was pregnant, survived the ordeal, but doctors could not save the baby and her husband.

She is currently under medical supervision and is in serious condition.

According to family members and neighbours, the couple was under financial stress and struggled to make ends meet.

Pal, a daily wage labourer, had taken loans from several people to mitigate the family expenses and could not repay his debts.
