AGARTALA: After the end of Navami, the Tripura's erstwhile royal family bids adieu to goddess Durga on Thursday late evening. This time, the immersion was done on the third day as Navami and Dashami fall on the same date.

The idol of Durga Bari Temple, existed over 500 years ago in the royal regime was immersed in the Haora River at Dashamighat with Tripura police band playing the national anthem. This is the only puja, totally sponsored by the Tripura government and national anthem is played during immersion.

Over hundred devotees thronged the royal Ujjayanta palace (current Tripura State Museum) when the idols from Durgabari and 'Prabhubari' were first brought amidst tight security. Later, idols headed by the priest and the Tripura police with hundreds of devotees in procession were taken to the Dashamighat for immersion.

The the Maharaja Krishna Kishore Manikya had established the Durgabari Temple in Agartala nearly 177 years back. Earlier, it was first in Udaipur, Amarpur and Puran Haveli. Earlier, the West District Magistarte used to write to the royal family members about the preparations of Durga Puja and after the completion of the puja. Recently, Maharani Bibhu Kumari Devi approves everything regarding the puja.

The real grandeur of the festival is the immersion of Durga idol of the Durgabari Temple. The idols are the first to get immersed at Dashamighat with the Tripura police band playing the national song. The tradition of funding by the state government was started since the princely state Tripura merged with the Indian Union according to the agreement signed between the then Maharani Kanchan Prabha Devi and the Indian Governor General on October 15, 1949.
