Tripura ADC polls: Over eight lakh voters to decide fate of 157 candidates

28 candidates from the Left Front, 28 from Congress, 23 from TIPRA (The Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance), five from INPT (Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura), 14 from BJP and 17 from IPFT (Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura), and 38 Independents, will be vying for the 28-seated Tripura ADC.

All preparations and arrangements are in place for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) to go to polls on Tuesday, April 6.

The voting will start at 7:00 am and will continue till 4:00 pm.

For the first time, Tripura ADC is witnessing a four-corner fight, with 157 candidates in the fray. 

28 candidates from the Left Front, 28 from Congress, 23 from TIPRA (The Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance), five from INPT (Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura), 14 from BJP and 17 from IPFT (Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura), and 38 Independents, will be vying for the 28-seated Tripura ADC. 

About two-thirds of the total land of Tripura falls under the ADC, covering a population of about 12,16,000.

Out of the total indigenous population, about 8,65,041 are eligible voters, of which 4,36,548 are male and 4,26,490 are female voters.

About 6000 polling staff have been deployed in 1244 polling stations, including security forces for hassle-free and peaceful voting.

The State Election Commission has also imposed Section 144 from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm within 200 meters of all polling stations.

Tripura royal scion Pradyot Kishore-led TIPRA and INPT are fighting the poll battle together under the banner of 'Greater Tipraland'.

The state ruling alliance, BJP and IPFT are set to put up a tough fight and, are looking forward to breaking the 15-year rule of the Left Front in the ADC.  

Prominent candidates include Pradyot Kishore, who is contesting from Takarjala-Jampuijala constituency; former Chief Executive Member of TTAADC Radhacharan Debbarma from Jirania; TIPRA's Animesh Debbarma and Ananta Debbarma; INPT's Bijoy Hrankhel and Jagadish Debbarma; IPFT's Shukla Charan Noatia, Dhananjoy Reang and Mangal Debbarma; CPI-M's Parikhit Murasing and Radha Charan Debbarma; and BJP's Salindra Nath.

The Left Front has been in power for the longest time in the 40-year history of the ADC. In the last 15 years, the opposition has not won a single seat in the ADC.
