AGARTALA:

A cadre of the National Liberation Front of Tripura, a militant outfit of Tripura, surrendered before the police on Sunday.

The cadre, identified as Nishi Kanta Jamatia, informed that he fled from the NLFT camp in Bangladesh due to the pathetic condition of rebels camps.

He surrendered before the police at Ananda Bazar police station under North Tripura, around 200 kms from Agartala.

According to the North Tripura Superintendent of Police, Bhanupada Chakraborty, the cadre had reportedly fled the NLFT hide-out in the Chittagong hill tracts of Bangladesh and trekked his way to North Tripura.

Police, however, refused to provide detailed information about the kind of weapons Nishi Kanta had deposited.

The surrenderee would be interrogated at Aananda Bazar police station before being taken to Agartala Special Branch (SB) cell to extract detailed information about the current profile and aims of NLFT, especially in the context of the upcoming ADC elections.
