AGARTALA:

Two days after the Destination Tripura Investment Summit 2021 concluded in the state, chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb, on December 12, said that the summit will be a boon for commercial and entrepreneurial development of the state in the coming years.

Addressing an event on Sunday, Deb said that trade agreements worth Rs 3,000 crore were signed during the summit and the state is “now progressing towards reaching the pinnacle of development”.

“Soon a new horizon of large-scale industrial prosperity is about to be unveiled in the state,” the chief minister said.

He further added that the MoUs signed in the investment summit will play a significant role in the state's industrial prosperity, economic development, and will also generate massive employment.

“The state government has worked on a priority basis to ensure business security by creating an industry-friendly and investment-friendly environment in the state,” he said.

In this regard, the chief minister cited Sabroom, a small town in Tripura’s south district and about 130km from state capital Agartala, as the next “commercial gateway to the Northeast”.

He said that Sabroom is emerging as a stepping stone to the commercial and massive economic prosperity of the state by utilising various opportunities including Special Economic Zones (SEZs), integrated checkposts, and maitri bridges, which had been neglected for a long time.

Taking potshots at the previous government in the Centre for neglecting the state, Deb rued that despite having adequate supple of natural resources and raw materials, Tripura couldn’t become an industrial hub in the country “due to lack of goodwill of the then government”.

He, however, expressed confidence that post the summit, things are set to change for the state for better and gave a lowdown on the state’s preparation to accentuate that change.

“The government is positive about providing subsidies for various international airlines including Singapore, Dhaka, and Chittagong.  The state will open international airports in the state to develop the tourism and industrial potential of the state and expand the opportunities,” Deb cited.
