AGARTALA:
The Royal Scion and Chairman of TIPRA, Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, on December 15, appointed Indian Football star Bhaichung Bhutia as the brand ambassador of Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) against uses of drugs and HIV.

Speaking to The Northeast Today (TNT), Debbarma said that the main idea of the TTAADC administration is to encourage sports, fitness, and to spread a message that drugs is not an option, and as Bhutia is considered a sporting icon, the footballer’s image will inspire youths to give up on drugs.

“I think it is very important that we focus on sports not just in Tripura but in the entire Northeast region. We need to get our youths into sports. We need to channelize our youths in the right direction. We have a lot of challenges in the Northeast like drugs and other antisocial elements. Hopefully, TTAADC will set an example in Tripura and the rest of the NE will copy it. I think this is a great initiative,” the TIPRA chief said.

He further stated that election, election-related news, and violence are prominent topics taken up for discussions in Tripura, therefore it is important to encourage sports and fitness among the general public to divert youths from drugs.

Meanwhlie, Bhutia stressed on opening a football academy in the state, stating that youths should take interest in the game and pursue it at a professional level.
