AGARTALA:

A 24-year-old man was allegedly shot dead by the Border Security Force (BSF) jawans at Bilonia in South Tripura on Monday.

The deceased has been identified as Jasim Mia, a resident of Debipur village.

According to local sources, Jasim Mia and his father, Khalek Mia took their cattle to Debipur village near Indo-Bangla international border on Monday morning for grazing.

"However, today the BSF jawans restricted them to graze their cows on that field. Later, a heated altercation broke out between Jasim Mia and BSF jawans," sources said.

His family members alleged the BSF jawans dragged him from the spot. He was beaten and later shot dead.

Jasim Mia was immediately rushed to Bilonia Hospital, where he was declared dead.

After the incident, people of the area took Jasim Mia's body and blocked the road while demanding an investigation into the incident and action against the perpetrators.

Meanwhile, the BSF has not released any official clarification in this regard.

However, according to a BSF official (name withheld), Jasim Mia was a smuggler and was also accused of attacking BSF personnel.
