GANGTOK:

The Chief Minister of Sikkim Prem Singh Golay on Wednesday announced that the vaccination process for the 18-44 age group will start from May 16, 2021.

The much-awaited vaccination drive had been delayed in the state and couldn't be carried out according to the schedule.

The government of India had earlier notified that the third phase of the vaccination drive for adults aged between 18-44 will begin on May 1, 2021, across the country.

However, some states could not begin the process immediately due to various constraints.

Meanwhile, 24.39 per cent of the total population in Sikkim have received their first dose of the vaccine, according to government data.

A total of 2.20 lakh vaccine doses have been administered in the state since the beginning of the vaccination drive on January 16, the health department stated.
