GANGTOK:

Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, on Tuesday, directed all state police personnel to undergo mandatory drug tests.

“Those who cannot get them self tested will lose their jobs,” Tamang said.

Tamang announced the move after reports had surfaced of state police personnel consuming narcotic drugs.

The CM also directed the Director-General of Police (DGP), A Shankar Rao, to begin the tests immediately.

“We will hold a mandatory drug test for all police personnel of the state. Anyone found to be using drugs will be compulsorily retired from service,” Tamang said.

“The move will discourage them from using narcotics drugs, as we want a strict and vigilant police force,” he added.
