GANGTOK:

Shops in market areas will remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays in Sikkim till the end of April, an order issued by the Home Department informed.

However, pharmacies and shops that sell essential items such as vegetables and rations have been exempted from the order.

"All shops will remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays except for medical shops, ration shops and vegetable vendors in bazaar areas. This order will remain in effect till 30.04.2021,” the order read.

In addition to the above containment measures, restrictions have also been imposed on gatherings for social, political and religious events with effect from April 17.

"The number of persons at any particular gathering shall not exceed fifty persons at any given point in time," the order read.

All such gatherings must duly maintain and follow COVID appropriate behaviour.

The state government is also setting up Rapid Antigen Testing (RAT) facilities at Rangpo and Melli check-posts for tourists entering the state.
