Sikkim bags "Eco agriculture award" 

The Eco-agriculture Awards 2021 of States/UTs was held for the first time by the group with a sustained focus on the eco-agriculture revolution.

Sikkim was conferred the Eco-agriculture Award by the Agriculture Today Group in a virtual seminar and award function held at the National Informatics Centre conference hall in Tashiling Secretariat, on Friday. 

The Eco-agriculture Awards 2021 of States/UTs was held for the first time by the group with a sustained focus on the eco-agriculture revolution.

The award was presented to the state by Dr Ashok Dalwai, National Rainfed Area Authority (NRAA) CEO and chairman of Task Force on Doubling Farmers Income.

Sikkim Agriculture Minister Lok Nath Sharma received the award, along with Agriculture secretary Rinzing C. Bhutia and Sikkim Organic Farming Development Agency (SOFDA) CEO Dr S. Anbalagan, who were also present with the minister in the meeting.

During the conference, Sharma highlighted the journey of Sikkim Organic Mission and underlined post declaration initiatives, including the ongoing establishment of Sikkim IFFCO Organic Limited at Rangpo to support farmers in the different fields of processing, packaging and marketing of agricultural products in the future.

Indian Chamber of Food and Agriculture chairman, Dr M.J. Khan, was also present at the event besides several other officials.
