KOHIMA:

A major political storm has erupted in New Delhi following the death of 13 civilians in Nagaland’s Mon district in a firing incident on December 4.

The opposition party especially the Congress has decided to raise the issue in the Parliament as Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi will serve an adjournment motion on this matter.

“I am serving an adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha on this matter tomorrow morning,” said Bordoloi to The Northeast Today (TNT).

Talking to The Northeast Today (TNT), Congress MP in the Rajya Sabha Ripun Bora termed the incident as most tragic and unfortunate.

“Deaths of civilians are most unfortunate. Army or Assam Rifles whoever maybe should have acted after cross-checking the intelligence inputs. It took place due to intelligence failure,” said Bora.

Bora said that a high-level inquiry must look into the cause of the incident so that a similar incident does not take place in the future.

Congress has also demanded a reply from the government over the incident.

Commenting on the incident, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi demanded a reply from the government.

“This is heart-wrenching. GOI must give a real reply. What exactly is the home ministry doing when neither civilians nor security personnel are safe in our own land?” said Gandhi on Twitter.

Thirteen people, including a soldier, died in a firing incident in Nagaland's Mon district on Saturday evening.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed his condolence to the kin of the family members who lost their lives.

“Anguished over an unfortunate incident in Nagaland’s Oting, Mon. I express my deepest condolences to the families of those who have lost their lives. A high-level SIT constituted by the State govt will thoroughly probe this incident to ensure justice to the bereaved families,” said Shah.
