NAGALAND: Trucks carrying commodities refuse to enter state fearing tax

Trucks carrying essential commodities for Nagaland have been stranded on the National Highway 39 inside Assam's Karbi Along district areas.

It was reported that the trucks were unable move following the collections of illegal taxes demanded by various organizations, underground groups, Government departments, municipal councils and Police departments.

According to sources they said that the truck drivers who were coming from outside of Nagaland to supply essential commodities to the dealers were allegedly stopped by some persons with receipts from various organisations and had demanded taxes from them.

Later, they asked the dealers to collect their goods by mini-trucks or auto vans from New Field Check Gate and Dillai Gate of Assam side to get rid of taxation.

The dealers added the taxation money to the commodities they received from outside and the entire burden of taxation have to pay by the general public.
