KOHIMA: The area which was once a garbage site filled with filth and junk that reeks, has turn into a recreational park. It was once a trash site thrown by colony residents and it was obvious that people never wanted to passed through the area.

AG ward executive said that, "It used to be a garbage disposal area filled with trash thrown by the colony residents and people did not want to cross the area because of its stench."

However, in present day the garbage dump has been transformed into a recreational site known as Sakhrie park aesthetically decorated with flowers, succulents and cactuses, vintage park benches, and play areas for kids, inaugurated by Nagaland State MP, Neiphiu Rio.

Rio, during the inauguration expressed his gratitude towards the Sakhrie family for such a wonderful initiative of creating a park in one of the most dirtiest area of the state which is a huge contribution to society.

Rio also opined that the Sakhrie family has continued its legacy of serving the government and contribute to society, the park is a vision given by God, for the goodwill of society and that in no time the park will be a well known landmark for the town of Kohima.

He further stated that it is, "A pleasant surprise, a pleasant sight and place of blessing. A great city needs a park and needs to create space for community activities. Because we have very few spaces in Kohima, there is no area for recreational activities. This park is a good example and hope other colonies will follow suit."
