Nagaland: Konyak lady creates history, becomes the first woman secretary of VDB

W Manni became the first woman in Konyak history to be elected as the Secretary of Village Development Board (VDB).

The Wangti village under Chen block of Mon district of Nagaland will now see their first-ever woman Secretary in VDB.

"Bringing smiles to the faces of the people by alleviating their plight, they are, and has always been, the prime motivation for me to be a public leader right from my childhood," said Wamei Manni.

According to Manni, everyone can be an agent of change and she believes that someone from an established platform can do it better and usher in an age of transformation for the place and the people.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also congratulated Manni on her success. Taking to Twitter, she wrote: 

"Congratulations and good wishes to Smt. Manni Konyak on being elected as Secretary of the Village Development Board. First woman from district Mon to be elected for such post. Mon is a beautiful district in beautiful Nagaland."

Manni Konyak graduated from Pranabananda Women's College, Dimapur and has expertise in computer programming. She is currently working as a Biometric Operator in the Chen area and is the Vice President of the Chen Area Students' Union (CASU).
