KOHIMA:

The Government of Nagaland on Tuesday announced a total lockdown in the state from May 14 to May 21, 2021, to break the chain of COVID-19 transmission in the state.

The decision comes after a high powered committee on COVID-19 decided to impose a state-wide lockdown for one week.

The lockdown will begin at 6 pm on May 14, during which there will be complete restrictions on the movement of the public.

However, essential services including agricultural activities, government departments will continue to function with core team formed by the Heads of the Department.

Further, construction activities may be permitted by contractors/ firms adhering to all the SOPs laid by the government for the workers.

The Health and Family Welfare Department has been advised to pursue aggressive testing and utilising the testing capacity of the COVID-19 labs.

The government will also issue new SOPs to be followed during the lockdown period.

It may be mentioned that the lockdown comes after many states in the Northeast went ahead with the call for lockdown/restrictions following the increasing number of cases being reported from the region.

While hospitals are facing a tough time in coping with the number of cases being reported daily, many states in the region have not yet started the vaccination drive for 18 years and above.
