Ministry of Tribal Affairs bestows 7 Van Dhan national awards to Nagaland

The Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, has conferred seven national awards to Nagaland for exemplary performance in various categories of Van Dhan Vikas Yojana (VDVY) and Minimum Support Price (MSP) schemes.

Nagaland topped three categories — the Best Survey, Best Training and the most number of Van Dhan Vikas Clusters (VDVKCs) established. It secured third positions in Best Sales Generated at Rs 115,86,000 and Innovation and Creativity.

The northeastern state also received two other awards for innovative and creative product ideas and these include the supply of gooseberry wine by Toka Multipurpose Society Ltd. and mushroom by Nagaland Beekeeping & Honey Mission.

According to an official statement issued on Monday, the VDVY and MSP for Minor Forest Produce (MFP) scheme focus on farmers' entrepreneurship programmes through processing, packaging, branding and marketing of locally available products. 

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio took to Twitter and congratulated the state for the awards bestowed by the Tribal Affairs Ministry.

Under the VDVY Scheme, Nagaland has 206 clusters comprising 2,805 self-help groups and 61,800 beneficiaries throughout the state.
