Dimapur emerges champion of U-14 Inter-District Catch Them Young Tournament

The two-day tournament featured an array of sports that included badminton, table tennis, and athletics - 100m, 800m long jump, and shotput for both boys and girls.

Dimapur district emerged as the group champions of the 13th edition of the Under-14 Inter-District Catch Them Young Tournament that concluded on November 12 at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima.

Dimapur emerged as the champions with 11 medals (five gold, three silver, and three bronze), followed by Peren district with 8 medals (4 gold, 1 silver, and 3 bronze). Mon district came third with 6 medals (three gold and three silver).

The two-day tournament featured an array of sports that included badminton, table tennis, and athletics - 100m, 800m long jump, and shotput for both boys and girls. A total of 48 medals were given away to the winners in different disciplines. A total of 205 participants - 89 boys and 78 girls - from 12 districts took part in the sporting event.

Department of Youth Resources & Sports (DYRS) director Akumla Chuba graced the occasion as the guest of honour and gave away the awards to the winners. Lauding the endeavour, the director said that the tournament will go a long way in honing the young talents of the state. Chuba also urged the interested participants to come and enrol themselves at the sports academy in Dimapur and asked them to contact the DSO to make arrangements for the same.

Organised by the DYRS, the tournament is an annual program of the Youth Resources and Sports department of Nagaland to identify and tap young talents of the districts and provide better opportunities for future endeavours.
