KOHIMA:

To oversee the enforcement of COVID-19 protocols in Nagaland, especially the mandatory wearing of masks in public places, the District Task Force Kohima on COVID-19 conducted a surprise checking and awareness drive at several locations on April 5.

The task force penalised 293 violators as per the guidelines, while masks were also distributed to the people.

An amount of Rs 29,100 was also collected as fines imposed for not wearing masks.

Additional Deputy Commissioner, Kohima N Bhavani Sri, IAS, said the surprise checking and awareness drive was started to sensitise the people on the usage of wearing masks.

“In the future, if needed, they will carry more such drives,” she informed.

SDO (C) Kohima R Daniel Angami, said citizens should know how to take care of themselves.

“With the surge of the second wave and the rise of positive cases in our state as well, we have to go back to people and plead them to wear masks,” he stated.

He said wearing masks is the least that citizens can do to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
