Over 500 pigs die of suspected African Swine Fever in Mizoram

Meanwhile, the government has declared two localities Edenthar Veng and Armed Veng in Aizawl, as “infected area” after they reported unknown pig disease in the two localities.

Over 500 pigs have died in Mizoram because of the suspected African Swine Fever (ASF), Joint Director (Southern Zone) of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department, Dr Vanlalbuanga, said on Sunday.

The death toll of pigs in south Mizoram’s Lunglei district has touched the 392-mark with 47 recent deaths reported on Sunday.

86 pigs also died because of unknown disease at Thinghlun and Bajirungpa village in Mamit district.

So far, 110 dead have been reported in Edenthar and Armed Veng localities in Aizawl.

Meanwhile, the government has declared two localities Edenthar Veng and Armed Veng in Aizawl, as “infected area” after they reported unknown pig disease in the two localities.

The government has prohibited the movement of pigs in and outside the two affected localities. 

The killing of infected pigs for commercial purposes is also prohibited.
