AIZAWL:

To counter the recent spike in the number of Covid-19 deaths in the state, the Mizoram government has set up testing kiosks at 20 different places in Aizawl, on November 26.

“The aim is to make testing easy and accessible for the people,” says Dr Pachuau Lalmalsawma, official spokesperson and state nodal officer on Covid-19.

Stressing on the importance of early testing, “Studies have found that most of people who died due to Covid-19 were unvaccinated or did not get tested even after being symptomatic,” he said.

In the last 24 hours, 444 new positive cases have been reported in the state, taking the total number of active cases to 4,338 with the total recoveries numbering at 12,8,737.

Lalmalsawma said, “The easiest way to tackle Covid-19 death rate is through the easy availability of testing centres.”

Adding that Mizoram has witnessed a sharp rise in Covid-19 cases with the number of fatalities surpassing Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh, he reiterated how the state had the least number of Covid-19 deaths in the North East, till October.

Between November 1 to 23, 11,196 cases have been detected with the number of deaths being 20. About 56.35 per cent of those infected showed symptoms of the disease, he informed.

Children and teens were most affected with 2,705 patients between the age group of 11-20 years. While 114 patients were infants, 1,590 were aged between 1-10.
