AIZAWL:

Unlike last year when people in Mizoram celebrated Christmas at their homes due to first wave Covid-19 pandemic, this year, they will be able to celebrate the festival in the churches sans community feast.

Churches in Covid-19 free villages and towns were re-opened from August 22, while religious places in Covid-19 affected areas, including Aizawl, were re-opened from October 2.

While, Churches, towns and villages have been lit up with Christmas decorations, however, this year’s Christmas celebrations in the State capital will still be far from normal as community feast and carol, the integral part of Christmas in Mizoram, will be missing.

The existing COVID-19 guidelines prohibit congregational singing in public places or churches and community feasts.

The government has banned firecrackers, sky lanterns and other pyrotechnic materials, including toy guns, which have bullets, during the festive season.
