Mizoram ranks seventh in administration of COVID vaccine doses

In terms of vaccination coverage against COVID-19, the northeastern state of Mizoram has occupied the seventh position among the states. A senior health department official, on Monday, said that over 81 per cent of the eligible citizens have been administered the first jab in the state.

Dr Eric Zomawia, director of National Health Mission (NHM) said, the vaccination drive is going on in full swing across the state.

Of the 7.75 lakh eligible beneficiaries falling in the 18 years and above age group, more than 6.30 lakh people have received the first dose till Sunday, the official said, adding that out of 6.30 lakh people, 1.98 lakh (31.4 per cent) have been vaccinated with both the doses.

Addressing a press conference on Monday, Dr R. Lalthangliana, State Health Minister said that the COVID-19 cases have shown an exponential since April this year.

Between January and March this year, 360 coronavirus cases were reported in the north-eastern state.

However, in April 1,655 cases were reported, which increased to 6,268 in May, followed by 8,093 in June, and 18,433 cases in July, Lalthangliana said.
