Mizoram issues revised guidelines on COVID-19

The new guidelines that come into effect from January 8, 2021, allow the opening of schools and hostels for Class 10 and 12 which are having board exams with strict Covid appropriate behaviours.

Amidst the Omicron scare and high positivity rates of COVID-19 in Mizoram, the State government, on January 7, issued revised guidelines for Aizawl municipal area, prohibiting church services at night among others.

The new guidelines that come into effect from January 8, 2021, allow the opening of schools and hostels for Class 10 and 12 which are having board exams with strict Covid restrictions in place..

The Education Department is accordingly making arrangements for all teachers and staff of the said classes to get them vaccinated against COVID-19.

Students of classes 1 to 9, 11, and higher institutes will continue to have online classes.

As per the revised SOPs Church services are allowed only on Sunday and Saturday with 50 per cent seating capacity. In view of the potential threat of the spread of infection, as far as feasible recorded devotional music/ songs may be played and choir, singing groups or mass singing should not be allowed, the new guidelines said.

People are advised to avoid movement of people during this period, including casual visits of neighbours/families including those residing in the same building block.

Public gatherings - anniversaries, birthdays, etc are prohibited. Outdoor/leisure activities, picnics, outings, trekking, hiking, adventure sports etc are also prohibited.
