AIZAWL:

A central team consisting of four members arrived in Aizawl on October 5 to assess the surge in COVID-19 cases in the state. The team is led by Dr Vinita Gupta, a consultant epidemiologist at  National Centre for Disease Control in Delhi.

According to an official statement, the central multi-disciplinary COVID-19 study team held a meeting with officials of the chief medical officers of Aizawl East and Aizawl West under the State Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme as well as with other health officials.

A virtual meeting will take place between the four-member team and the chief medical officers of various districts on Wednesday to review and assess the COVID-19 situation of every district, the statement read, adding that they will also visit various COVID-19 care facilities within Aizawl West.

A visit will also be paid to the Champhai district on Thursday for the same purpose.

A health department official said that Mizoram has been continuing to register a spike in positive COVID-19 cases. The state reported at least 1,681 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, pushing the state’s tally to 99,856.

A state-level expert team on COVID-19 management, formed in September, has meanwhile underlined that more attention has to be paid to symptomatic patients as well as high-risk groups such as pregnant women and the elderly with comorbid conditions.
