AIZAWL:

Ever since the violent clash between the police forces of Assam and Mizoram on July 26 that led to the death of at least six police personnel and injuring many others, trucks from Assam's Barak valley have stopped coming to Mizoram and this has affected the transportation of essential commodities, including medicines to the state.

Mizoram Revenue Minister Lalruatkima on Saturday informed that the state is facing an intense shortage of testing reagents and medicines due to the alleged "economic blockade" by Assam on National Highway 306.

Taking to his official Twitter handle, the minister wrote, "ZMC RT-PCR lab is now facing acute shortage of essential testing reagents, and therefore, sample testing in Mizoram is getting capped based on the available stock."

"It is unfortunate that supply of testing kits, reagents and other life-saving drugs are still stranded at the Assam-Mizoram border, due to continued blockade of NH306," he added.

It may be mentioned that earlier this week, the Mizoram Bar Association (MBA) had filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) before the Aizawl bench of the Gauhati High Court against the blockade clamped on National Highway-306.

In its petition, the MBA had termed the blockade as an "outright violation of the basic fundamental right to life".
