Mizoram accords grand welcome to Olympian Lalremsiami

Mizoram's pride Lalremsiami, who was part of the Indian women's hockey team in the recently concluded Tokyo Olympics, was accorded a grand welcome in her home state with people descending on the streets to cheer for her.

Upon her arrival at Lengpui airport, she was given a state reception.

An association of bikers in the state called ''Aizawl Thunder'' consisting of 200 motorcyclists escorted the Olympian's motorcade from the airport to the state capital, Aizawl.

Taking to Twitter, Chief Minister Zoramthanga wrote, "Welcome Home @Lalremsiami30, Olympian; member of the Indian Women's Hockey Team at Tokyo, 2020 Olympics".

21-year-old Lalremsiami said that representing the country in the Olympics was a landmark achievement for her but it was just the beginning and that she will try her best to win more laurels for the country and her home state.

The women's hockey team had finished fourth at the coveted games. Lalremsiami, the only Olympian from Mizoram at the Tokyo Olympic 2020 has also been appointed to the post of Chief Coach (Hockey) Group-A, under the Sports & Youth Services Department.
