A magisterial inquiry, on January 11, found no foul play in the fire that damaged Aizawl DC office building in the wee hours of December 17, 2021.

The inquiry report submitted to the government on January 10 said that even though the exact cause of the fire could not be ascertained, “it did not appear to be intentional”.

Aizawl Municipal Corporation joint commissioner, H Lalhmingthanga, was assigned to conduct the inquiry.

Built in 1890, the Aizawl office building was the second government office built by the British administration after Tlabung post office that still stands.
